Hi, I am David Birse and work at Ellon Academy as Principal Teacher Faculty (Creative Arts). I teach a wide range of music and music technology from S1 to S3, and SQA Examinations for S4, S5 and S6 at National 3 to Advanced Higher. In addition to teaching Music and Music Technology, my role as PT Faculty (Creative Arts) is to encourage and manage a wide range of inter-disciplinary activities within Art and Design, Drama, Media Studies and Music.
Teaching music is not just about lessons and classes but about making music together. So music activities are very important, both from a musical and social point of view. I run the Orchestra, Senior Concert Band and Jazz Band, and help at various other ensembles. However, there are many other types of ensemble available at Ellon Academy – my colleagues run the String Orchestra, Percussion Group, Guitar Group, Choir, Inspiration, Junior Concert Band, Ceilidh Band, Brass Ensemble and String Quartet.
I also give private piano and keyboard lessons, and am always delighted to start new pupils.
Among my interests are jazz music, playing the piano, Music Technology, music pedagogy and American Football.
